Choosing A Course - 14-19
Guidance
If you would like to join a course at Sussex Downs College, but don't know which one to choose, you can ask for a guidance session. Our friendly staff will listen to you, and help you to work out the best course for you.
A Guidance Session Explained
What to expect…..
A Guidance Session usually lasts about 30 to 40 minutes.
It is a chance to discuss the courses and subject combinations that you would like to study.
The Guidance Advisor will talk to you about the level of study that will suit you, based on your predicted GCSE grades.
The session will encourage you to think about how the choices you make now may affect future plans, including Higher
Education.
You can also talk about any worries or concerns you may have about coming to college.
What not to expect….
A Guidance Session is not a Careers Interview.
You will not normally be made an offer of a college place during a Guidance Session. You will usually be invited to attend a College
Interview at a later date.
The Guidance Advisor will not tell you what you should do. They will advise you and answer questions to help you make a decision.
And just a few other things……
You can bring your parents/carers if you wish.
It may be useful to have a Careers Interview before you come
particularly if you are really undecided about your future.
All our Guidance Advisors are members of Student Services.
