Theses sessions will give you information about the various Teacher Training programmes at Sussex Downs College. Your attendance at an information session is the starting point of the recruitment process.
Recruitment Process
Stage 1
Attendance is required at one of the general information sessions listed above. These sessions are for part time or full time teaching staff who are looking to embark on either the PGCE/CERT ED or DTLLS programmes.
Stage 2
After attending one of these sessions, individual interviews will be arranged. Dates for these will be provided at the general session.
Please make every effort to attend one of the above sessions if you want to commence with a teacher training qualification for the academic year 2010 / 2011.

Qualification Summary
This qualification – the Edexcel Level 5 Diploma in Teaching in the Lifelong Learning Sector (DTLLS) - is designed to equip someone with the skills and knowledge required to take up the role of a full teacher. This is interpreted as someone who is entering the profession and taking on the full responsibilities of a teacher
The Diploma in Teaching in the Lifelong Learning Sector should provide:
• education and training for those hoping to enter, or entering, the education sector with a responsibility to provide teaching or training in the lifelong learning sector
• opportunities for trainers in the field of education to achieve a nationally-recognised Level 5 vocationally-specific qualification
• opportunities for full-time learners to gain a nationally-recognised vocationally-specific qualification to enter employment in the field of teaching or to progress to further vocational qualifications, including QTLS licence status
• the knowledge, understanding and skills learners need to teach
• opportunities for learners to focus on the development of essential skills within the context of teaching.
• opportunities for learners to develop a range of skills and techniques, personal qualities and attitudes essential for successful performance in working life.
Course Length
Teaching practice of 150 hours, of which 8 hours must be observed and contribute to achievement of the Diploma.
To achieve the whole qualification, a learner must successfully complete all the mandatory units plus accumulate the appropriate number of credits through selected options. The minimum number of credits to achieve the Diploma is 120 credits.
The Part Time route takes a minimum of two years to complete.
Course Provision for 2010 / 2011
We will look to provide courses across both Lewes and Eastbourne Campus. Days have not yet been scheduled.
Tuition Fees
Tuition fees for 2010/2011 has yet to be confirmed. STUDENT SUPPORT TO ASSIST IN FEE PAYMENT MAY BE AVAILABLE THROUGH STUDENT FINANCE ENGLAND. THERE MAY BE ADDITIONAL COSTS INVOLVED DEPENDANT ON THE TRAVELLING DISTANCE REQUIRED TO OBSERVE YOUR TEACHING.
Entry Requirements
1. Capability and motivation to work at HE Level
2. Currently teaching in the post compulsory sector
Progression opportunities for PGCE/CERT ED AND DTLLS: Subject to qualification, there are progression opportunities available onto both BA and MA education degrees at the University of Brighton.
