Help and information about applying for a job:
Before applying for a job at the College, we strongly recommend that you read:
- General guidance notes contained at the back of the application form
- ‘Further Details’ document for the post you are applying for
They give important information that you should include in your application form.
How we Shortlist
Your application form is an essential part of our recruitment process. It enables us to decide whether or not to shortlist you for interview.
We use the job description and person specification to shortlist from. If you do not clearly demonstrate how you meet the essential criteria in the person specification, it is unlikely that you will be shortlisted for interview.
Completing the application form
The most important part of the form is the section ‘supporting information’. This is your opportunity to show us how you meet the person specification and job description. You need to demonstrate how your skills, knowledge and experience match those we require and how they will enable you to successfully do the job.
Use the criteria in the person specification as headings and give examples of your experience and skills under each heading.
You can use skills you have gained from the community and voluntary work, leisure interests and your home life, as well as those from your past and present employment.
CV’s
We do not accept CV’s as the sole form of application and ask all applicants to complete our standard application form. If you wish you may enclose a CV with the application form in order to cover the information required in the employment history section.
The exception to this is candidates with a disability where a CV might be the most convenient method of application. Applications from candidates will also be accepted in Braille or on cassette.
When you should expect to hear from us
Further to submitting your application if you have not heard anything from us within six weeks of the closing date, then unfortunately you will not have been shortlisted, but we thank you for taking the time to apply.
