Academic Quality

We have a long tradition of helping our students to be successful. Our international students consistently achieve exam grades higher than the national average. In 2008 our international students achieved a pass rate of 100% at A2 level, with 98% achieving A-C grades. 93% of our students achieved IELTS 5.5 or above in 2007/8.

Our Teachers

Our teachers will create a friendly and supportive learning environment enabling you to grow in confidence and achieve your goals. They will use up-to-date teaching resources and communicative teaching methods to deliver effective and enjoyable lessons.

Centres Of Vocational Excellence

Vocational students will benefit from studying in Centres of Vocational Excellence (CoVE). These are awarded to Further Education (FE) Colleges in the UK who provide exceptional vocational training. Sussex Downs College currently holds CoVE awards in Performing Arts, Sports and Retail.

Our expert admissions and guidance teams and staff review every application made, and will make sure you choose the right course to achieve your goals. Courses will be offered at different levels, according to your academic ability and level of English. You can download the application form here.

Refund Policy

Course Deposit, Accommodation and bank transfer Fees
All students must pay £500.00 with their application. This is in addition to a £35.00 non-refundable Accommodation Arrangement Fee (AAF) if they require accommodation. If payment is via bank transfer you should add £10.00 fee in your payment to cover bank fees. The remainder of the tuition fees must be paid in full before the course starts for academic or vocational courses, or at least a term in advance for English language courses.

Visa Rejection
If a student is a visa national and fails to get a visa before the start of the course, we agree to refund the £500.00 deposit, less an administration fee of £150.00. The student must apply for the refund in writing, returning the original offer letter and a copy of the rejection letter. The College reserves the right to keep the full deposit if there is any suspicion that the visa application was not genuine.

Other Cases
In other cases, deposit refunds are only granted under exceptional circumstances as defined by the College.

Tuition fees for all courses will only be refunded under exceptional circumstances as defined by the College, once a course has started. We will try to offer an alternative course if available.

Late Arrivals
Late arrival onto courses can sometimes be arranged on request but pro-rata fees are not available for missed tuition weeks.

Summer School Bookings
Summer School cancellations incur a charge of £300.00 and must be made in writing before the start of the course. We are unable to offer refunds for the Social Programme once it has been booked and paid for.

Agents
If a student has been introduced to the College via an agent, we must inform the agent if they withdraw and request a refund.

Entry Requirements and Course Cancellation
Should we be unable to accept a student on to the course of their choice, either because, they have not met the course entry requirements or the College has cancelled the course, we will offer a full refund.

Unacceptable Student Behaviour
If a student is asked to leave the College before completing their course due to unacceptable behaviour as defined by the College, no refund will be given.

Refunds can only be authorised by an International Manager.
