Digital Media Department
At Sussex Downs College in Lewes you can study to become a well qualified and highly skilled professional in the digital media industry. We offer courses at 6th Form and University levels, from BTEC Nationals in Interactive Media (equivalent to A levels) to degree courses.
For those who have already got their A levels or are looking to be a mature student, we have the Foundation Degree Arts (FdA) in Digital Media Design, a two year course run in partnership with the University of Brighton. FdA graduates can top up to a full BA (Hons) in a further year of study in our department.
The courses we offer are:
- BTEC National Certificate in Interactive Media
- Foundation Degree Arts (FdA) in Digital Media Design
- BA (Hons) top-up in Digital Media Design
These courses give students a solid grounding in both design and software skills, covering areas as diverse as graphic design, web and interface design, animation, motion graphics, digital video and DVD authoring. Design practices such as generating concepts and pitching proposals are important in the coursework assignments, as are professional practices like working to a brief and project management. Students are given opportunities to work on live briefs with clients from industry.
Our graduates have gone on to pursue successful careers in a wide range of design and advertising fields; one of them even runs the website for the Prime Minister. The successes of this innovative Digital Media section were recognised in 2007 when we won a prestigious AoC Beacon Award for Practical Learning and Teaching. If you would like to take part, as a student, a client or an industry partner, please contact Kate Williams.
