Old Town Community Action Week

Monday 11th to Thursday 21st January 2010

The Old Town Area Panel, in conjunction with Sussex Police, the Crime Reduction Partnership, Eastbourne Homes, Eastbourne Borough Council and Old Town Community Church, have come together to address the neighbourhood priorities and concerns on the Old Town estate in a community action week.

We will be addressing issues identified by the community ranging from speeding cars,anti-social behaviour, street cleansing, fly tipping, graffiti, bad parking, untaxed vehicles and more.

We are looking for community minded residents to assist in a litter pick-up on Saturday 16th January 2010. If you are interested in helping, please meet at the Salvation Army, top of Central Avenue at 9.30am for a free sausage sandwich to get you started. Also there should be someone available to offer advice and help with you gardening queries.

There will also be Drop-in surgeries at the Old Town Community Centre on Tuesday 19th January, Wednesday 20th January and Thursday 21st January. Please come in for information and advice from a wide range of different organisations.

Calling all Community Leaders

Do you run a community group?

Flower arranging courseSussex Downs College would like to help you with courses for your group as part of our community outreach programme.

Courses can be short tasters or lead to full accreditation. The courses are tailored around the specific learning needs of the group and often there are no costs to the learner.

For example a local group of young mums expressed an interest in midwifery so we were able to organise for the Community Midwife to give them a short introductory course.

The provision is aimed at adults who for whatever reason would not consider formal adult learning courses. We aim to provide short, informal courses in a familiar environment to the learner.

Subjects include beauty therapy, child psychology, reaching your goals, counselling skills, parenting skills, pottery, life drawing, IT, French and cooking on a budget.

Contact Heather Hunnisett for further details if you would like to know more about running a course in a community venue near you.
