Students in national finals for the Oxford Union Schools’ Debating Competition
The competition requires students to have speed and depth of thought on some of the most important issues of the day. The Oxford Union is the largest debating competition in the world.
Haydon Croker (18), and Helen Lawless (17), will represent the College in the finals.
They won their place by winning the regional round which took place on January 18 at Cranbrook School in Kent. The final in March will take place at the Oxford Union, where over 80 teams from the UK, Ireland and Canada will compete for the title.

Debating relies on common sense, employing careful listening and rapid responses whilst engaging in a willingness to discuss contentious issues.
Sherry Russell, Head of Lewes Sixth Form said: “In recent years we have established quite a momentum for public speaking and debating at the College, it is a tribute to our students who are happy to engage and think about world issues.”
