Art, Design and E-Media

Ever thought of a career in the exciting and fast growing creative industries? The courses in this section are the next step in preparing you for a huge range of opportunities for progression into the arts, into the
design and communication industries, into the media or the music industry.

These courses help you to find the right pathway to suit your personal strengths and interests prior to specialising in one of a range of very exciting areas. The creative industries department has amazing facilities across all these areas (fashion, 3D, graphic design, illustration, product, fine art, textiles,moving image, radio, new media, broadcasting, journalism, animation, and lens based media, design crafts, sound design, music technology etc.)

We also have outstanding results and progression rates as well as excellence in teaching and learning.

Business, Economy and Law

Our expert teaching staff, many of whom have extensive professional experience, will prepare you for your nextstep on the road to a professional career. Your next step could be further or higher education or straight into the workplace.

You can expect to develop a range of skills essential for your future success in whatever field you choose. These include: writing and presentation; quantitative techniques; analytical skills and logical argument. Perhaps more importantly your course will help you to develop essential life skills such as: teamwork, leadership and communication, all of which will increase your confidence in your own abilities.

We offer a range of vocational and academic courses in Business, Accounting, Finance, Economics and Law.

Childcare and Health and Social Care

If job satisfaction is top of your priorities list and you want a career where you will really make a difference to people’s lives then a career in the care sector could be for you.

Park College offers a wide range of courses in childcare and health and social care that combine classroom experience with vocational placements to give you the qualifications and experience you need to succeed. Students will find that there is a huge demand for well qualified carers in and around Sussex.

Earth Sciences

Earth Sciences is an all-embracing term for the sciences relating to the processes of planet Earth. The disciplines available to study include subjects such as Geography and Geology. You will have the opportunity to learn about the elements, the evolution of life, earth surface processes and the origins and behaviour of the oceans and atmosphere.

An innate knowledge of the earth and its processes will be accrued which will be applicable to many areas of future study.

English and Communications

We offer a wide range of courses in English. By studying one of these courses, you will develop your reading, writing, speaking and listening skills. You will also learn how to make a close analysis of style in order to gain an informed understanding of the ways in which writers use language to convey meaning and shape readers responses.

Classes often involve lively discussions and will help you develop confidence about speaking in public. Written work is carefully marked to help you improve your grasp of structure, accuracy and expression.

Our aim is to encourage active participation, develop student’s interest in their subject and equip them to learn independently as a preparation for university study or employment. These subjects combine well with a wide range of others and are useful qualifications for a large number of careers such as journalism, public relations, law, media and teaching.

Foundation Studies

The Foundation programme area offers courses for those students who require more individual support to gain Entry and Foundation level qualifications. The courses allow students to build on essential skills and general education whilst broadening their experience of vocational areas.

These courses are particularly suitable as a preparation for students who are not yet ready to embark on a specific vocational course or ready to go directly into employment.

Students who feel they have not attained adequate grades at school will benefit from the further development in English, Number and Information Technology with different forms and qualifications.

Group sizes are small to enable tutors to give maximum support to students and there is an
emphasis on assignment and project work enablingstudents to work at their own pace.

Humanities

With our highly qualified and expert staff and friendly and enjoyable learning styles and the opportunity to develop new and exciting ideas, it is no surprise that so many students choose to include at least one Humanities subject in their programme of studies.

Whether in History, Religious Studies or Philosophy, exploring ancient minds in Classical Civilisation or how we work together in today communities in Government and Politics or just developing new skills in Critical Thinking, the Humanities team will introduce you to new and unexpected worlds of possibility.

Languages

Exciting opportunities exist to live and work abroad if you can communicate well in other languages. Our foreign language courses will develop your ability to succeed in your chosen language. They will also help you to understand authentic written and spoken material.

The Performing Arts area is a busy and exciting environment where you are able to explore the challenges that will face you in the 21st century. Public Services

If you are considering a career in the armed forces (Army, Navy or Royal Air Force)or the emergencyservices (Police, Fire or Ambulance) the Prison Service, or Customs and Excise then this is the programme for you. Our popular Public Services programme will prepare you for a career in many branches of the uniformed services, giving you an understanding of how they operate and the opportunities open to you.

Science and Mathematics

We offer one of the widest ranges of advanced level science programmes in the region. Excellent facilities combined with quality teaching make us a natural choice for any student wishing to pursue a career related to the sciences.

Mathematics plays a vital role in science, technology, finance and management services. Those students who possess the analytical and numerical skills required for advanced level courses (and beyond) are in demand in all walks of industry and academia.

Social Sciences

Sociologists and psychologists study human behaviour and how the culture of a society is learned from different perspectives. Sociologists explore types of society and social constructs including the family, religion, the class system and education.
