Students raise funds for Haiti

Students on the Skills for Life Intensive English class at Sussex Downs College in Lewes raised over £70 by selling copies of their book of poetry and prose to help raise funds for the children of Haiti.

The learners, Coreen Harding, Jeanette Reed, Ann-Marie Sanders and Toby Bradfield with tutor Coral Streader, worked collectively to produce a book of creative writing. This project involved many skills from researching, discussing, writing, revising and proofreading, to illustrating and formatting, and finally to organising into a booklet form and advertising the book sale.

The printing of the book is due to the amazing support of Network Services and the Reprographic Department at the college.

Coral Streader, tutor in English, said: “The writing aspect involved playing with words and expressions, phrases and sentences, and turning them into different poetic or prose forms. This was the first time that most of the learners had been on such a learning journey. Their writing achievements are to be commended as well as their determination to support UNICEF as it brings relief to children hit by the earthquake in Haiti.”
