Supporting Charities at Sussex Downs College
We support many charities here at Sussex Downs College, through fundraising and awareness activities but both our students and staff. Here are some of our recent events:
Students bag packing raises over £200 for St Wilfred’s Hospice in Eastbourne
Society Health and Development Diploma students from Eastbourne recently organised a bag pack at Sainsbury’s as part of a unit they are studying called Working Together and Communicating. Read more
Fundraiser for Sussex Air Ambulance
Admin Skills for the Workplace students held a raffle on Thursday 27 May with amazing prizes donated from the college and local businesses. They also had be muffins, sweets and various other items on sale. All of the proceeds from the fundraiser will be going to the Sussex Air Ambulance. We will let you know how much they have raised soon!
Charity solo run through Kenya will make history
Chris Howarth - runner, writer and student participation officer in Eastbourne will make history by running solo across the whole of Kenya in aid of "Hear our Voice", a charity that supports and rehabilitates street children using theatre and the creative arts. Read more
Students raise funds for Action Against Hunger
Sussex Downs College year one BTEC students from hospitality and catering turned a planned event management exercise into a fund raising activity for the disaster appeal for Haiti and raising nearly £600 from the event. Read more
African Adventure for Personal Tutor
Hannah Harris who is a personal tutor at Sussex Downs College in Eastbourne is about to set off on an adventure of a lifetime as she goes to work for several weeks during the summer in an orphanage in Zanzibar, Tanzania, Africa. Read more
Sport Relief 2010
Entry Course students from Lewes raised an amazing £182 for Sport Relief by running the Sport Relief Mile in March despite the pouring rain! Congratulations to everyone who took part, and to all the sponsors and supporters - Susanna Evans, Lewes Foundation Learning Tier.
Students raise more funds for Haiti
Kind hearted students at Sussex Downs College, Eastbourne raised over £300 for the Haiti earthquake appeal. The 16 students, who all have learning difficulties, raised the money though a sponsored walk around Hampden Park.

Students on the Skills for Life Intensive English class at Sussex Downs College in Lewes raised over £70 by selling copies of their book of poetry and prose to help raise funds for the children of Haiti. Read More
Coffee Morning for Macmillan Cancer Support and Breast Cancer Breakthrough
Liz Moore, Teacher Training, and her colleagues held a coffee morning in December to raise funds for Breast Cancer Breakthrough and Macmillan Cancer Support. Homemade cakes, fresh coffee and a second hand book stall raised a fantastic £178! The funds will be split between the two charities.
Opt IN Students raise funds for Burma Appeal
The staff and students of Opt IN would like to say a massive thank you to everyone who contributed to, and supported, our Burma Appeal on Wednesday 25th November 2009. With your help we managed to raise over £100!
Children in Need 2009
Sussex Downs College raised £890.22 for Children in Need 2009. Students and staff at all our campuses held lots of exciting events including hair and beauty treatments, face painting, fancy dress and students auctions. Well done to everyone involved.
Carpentry Department recycle old tools
The carpentry department at Sussex Downs College, Eastbourne, are putting their old tools to good use. They are also asking businesses and the public to donate their useless tools to the college. The tools will then be refurbished and sent onto the charity Tools For Self Reliance.
