On the Sussex Downs College website

 

We have made the Sussex Downs College website as accessible as possible while still providing the information you need. We want you to be able to find your way around the site and get the information you want quickly.

We have closely followed the W3C's WAI accessibility guidelines to ensure that our website is available to as many users as possible.

The website meets the W3C Priority 1 Checkpoints and every reasonable adjustment has been made to meet the requirements of the Disability Discrimination Act.

Tools and tips

Text and layout

  • Use of web friendly fonts
  • Clear contrast between text and background colours
  • Clear headings and page content
  • Separation of navigation from main content
  • Flexible content that can be adjusted in size

Images

  • All images have an ALT tag that is a short description of that image

Easy to read version

  • Switch to our Easy to Read version that uses plain colours, large text and links.
  • You can always change back to the Default style.

Change font size

  • In Internet Explorer go to View >> Text Size >> Larger to increase text size. You can choose a number of options for font size
  • In Firefox go to View >> Zoom >> Zoom In / Zoom out . Or use CTRL ++ to increase font size, CTRL - - to reduce font size and CTRL+0 to reset the font to default size.
  • In Safari use CTRL ++ to increase font size, CTRL - - to reduce font size and CTRL+0 to reset the font to default size
  • In Google Chrome use CTRL ++ to increase font size, CTRL - - to reduce font size and CTRL+0 to reset the font to default size.
  • In Opera go to View >> Zoom and choose the size you want

To override website settings in Internet Explorer:

  1. In Internet Explorer, click the Tools button, and then click Internet Options.
  2. On the General tab, click Accessibility.
  3. Select the Ignore colors specified on webpages, Ignore font styles specified on webpages, and Ignore font sizes specified on webpages check boxes, and then click OK twice.

To override website settings in Firefox:

  • Go to View >> Page Style >> No Style
  • This will turn off all formatting

To change font settings in Safari:

  • Go to Menu >> Preferences >> Appearance
  • Here you can change both the font style and size

To change web settings in Google Chrome:

To override website settings in Opera:

  • Go to Menu >> Page >> Style >> Accessibility Layout
  • This will turn display the page in an accessible format

Reading PDFs

  • Where possible, we have included information on the website that is also available as a downloadable pdf
  • You can convert PDFs to HTML or text format on the Adobe website. You will need to copy and past the URL of the pdf that you want to convert.
