Whether you have an interest in digital sound or video, website design, digital image manipulation, digital illustration, motion graphics, animation techniques, or interactive design, this course offers an exciting and dynamic range of skill development covering both the creative and technical aspects of digital media design.
The emphasis is on developing ideas and acquiring skills. You will learn to find innovative solutions to complex problems, gain confidence in handling a wide range of software, become effective team workers and creative designers, skilled in presenting yourself and your ideas. You will develop the conceptual, analytical, technical and design skills required by the industry.
The course is Mac based and is operated from two well equipped suites.

At Sussex Down College you can take part in a two-year full time Foundation Degree in Digital media Design. This course is validated by the University of Brighton and gives you the opportunity to complete a third top-up year to achieve a BA Honours Degree in Digital Media Design. This course introduces you to all aspects of digital media design; web and mobile design, animation and motion graphics, interactive design, digital imaging and digital video.

Throughout the course, you will work on a series of interesting and diverse assignments, which will provide you with the skills and confidence to tackle your own projects once you leave, enabling you to compete for work as a digital media designer.
Who’s this course for?
This course is designed for people who want to become well-qualified and highly skilled professionals within the digital media industry. It aims to prepare you for a career in creative digital media.
The course covers general principles of design development, digital media technologies and current applications in electronic communications and audiovisual techniques. The programme includes live digital media projects and the opportunity to work in teams and with practising media professionals. There is an opportunity to enter live design competition briefs in each year of the course. Attending an international design conference is also offered in both years.
You will have 5 modules assessed with practical projects and 1 module assessed with an academic essay.

Visual Communication, Visual Language, Web Design, Interactive Design, Time Based Media (Sound & Film), Animation, Screen Based Design and other specialist pathways within the Digital Media Industry
After the course
This course is designed for those who wish to become well-qualified and highly skilled professionals within the multimedia industry. It provides a realistic platform for entering professional practice, whether working in existing digital media design agencies or freelancing. Students wishing to take their studies further may be able to progress to the BA(Hons) Digital Media top-up also run here at Sussex Downs College (Lewes).
UCAS Tariff new system: 60 Points, from a minimum of one 6-unit qualification. Relevant A-level subjects. Level 3 Key Skills will count towards tariff score. For applicants without the necessary tariff, consideration will be given to those who can demonstrate previous related experience or evidence of an engagement with the subject and an application of digital skills. Individual offers may vary. For the first year of entry you will be assessed by interview/portfolio.

QAA-approved access course: Foundation studies in Art and Design acceptable; subject-specific units
GCSE (minimum grade C): A good profile
For Non-native speakers of English: IELTS 6.0 overall, 6.0 in writing
Formal academic qualifications may not be required for applicants over 21 who can demonstrate appropriate experience and potential at interview.
