Activities & Excursions

Sussex Downs College is a great place to make friends from all over the world and to have fun with international and UK students.
In addition to your academic, vocational or English language programme, there are a range of activities both on and off campus you can get involved in. The activities will support your learning, enabling you to learn new skills and make new friends..

Activities

Activities could include: Orchestra, choir, day trips to cultural and tourist destinations such as Oxford and the Harry Potter Studio in London, sports, yoga, Zumba, archery, volunteering (subject to your visa type) and CV workshops.

Sport at Sussex Downs College

We strongly welcome students who have a passion for sport. You will able to participate in the sport of your choice at the level you enjoy. By joining one of our sports teams you will be able to keep fit and make new friends, as well as practising your English with native speakers.

Each campus is equipped with a wide range of sporting amenities. There are leisure centres, swimming pools, gyms and athletics training facilities located on or next to each campus.

The towns of Lewes and Eastbourne both have rich sporting traditions. Each town has football, hockey and rugby teams to name a few, and you will be in easy reach of London premiership football and rugby clubs. Eastbourne also hosts a major international tennis tournament each year. The close-by city of Brighton and Hove has championship-winning cricket and basketball teams and the football team has just been promoted to the English Premiership.

Please note that there may be an additional fee for some activities and all are subject to availability such as: Archery,Badminton, Basketball, Dance, Football, Fitness, Golf, Gym, Hockey, Rugby, Squash, Swimming, Table Tennis, Tennis, Volleyball and Zumba.

Excursions

Make the most of your time by joining our organised excursions to UK tourist attractions.

Excursions take place most weekends. You can choose to go to cities such as Oxford and Cambridge, as well as Bath, Windsor Castle and the Warner Brothers Studio Tour in London for the Making of Harry Potter experience.

It’s a great way to meet other international students and enjoy what the UK has to offer.

Sports Academy

Sussex Downs College Sports Academies have a national reputation for many sporting achievements.

Sports Academies are for students who wish to pursue competitive sports at a high level.

You may combine Sports Academies with your studies and you will be expected to participate in weekly training with advanced coaching and competitive games. In addition you will also work towards a City and Guilds Principals of Coaching Award qualification.

What Sports Academy can you join?

Sports Academies are currently available in the following sports such as: Golf,  Men’s Rugby, Men’s and Women’s Football and Women’s Netball.

When applying for your chosen course at Sussex Downs College, please provide a list of your sporting achievements on your application form. Please also write which Sports Academy you wish to join.

Entry Requirements

You will be able to join one of our Sports Academies if you are:

  • Studying on a full-time programme from September to April
  • successful in an interview upon arrival
  • experienced in a relevant sport or play for a club, local or national team in your country
  • Have a strong wish to improve your sporting ability

Fees

Fees vary depending on your particular Sports Academy and sports kit required.
