About BTEC programmes at Sussex Downs College

What can you study?

Level 2 entry requirements:
You must be at least 16 years old
English language level equivalent to IELTS 5.0 (Academic) with a minimum of 5.0 in all four papers

Level 3 entry requirements:
You must be at least 16 years old

There are six different types of Level 3 vocational courses you can choose from. Please contact us to see which course is right for you.
1. BTEC Diploma (90 credits) (one year)
Equivalent to three AS Levels. You can also choose to take a further year of study to achieve a BTEC Extended Diploma (180 credits).
2. BTEC Extended Diploma (180 credits) (two years)
Equivalent to three full A levels, this qualification will allow you to enter a degree programme or go directly into your chosen career. Year one consists of the BTEC Diploma (90 credits) and a successful completion of year two will lead to the BTEC Extended Diploma (180 credits).
3. BTEC Diploma (two years)
Equivalent to two full A Levels, a BTEC Diploma may allow you to enter certain degree programmes or go directly into your chosen career. You may combine a BTEC Diploma with one A level subject or a BTEC Subsidiary Diploma (which is equivalent to one A Level).
4. BTEC Subsidiary Diploma (one or two years)
Equivalent to one A Level, this qualification is suitable for preparing you for your chosen career. You should combine a BTEC Subsidiary Diploma with other courses, such as BTEC Certificate, BTEC Diploma or A Levels, in order to enter university.
5. BTEC Certificate (one year)
Equivalent to one AS Level, a BTEC Certificate is suitable for preparing you to enter your chosen career. You may combine a BTEC Certificate with other courses such as BTEC Subsidiary Diploma, a BTEC Diploma or A Levels, in order to enter university.
6. Foundation Diploma in Art and Design (UAL) (one year)
Intensive preparation for entry to an art and design-based degree programme, validated by the University of the Arts.
