How to Apply

16 to 19 year olds

If you would like to join a course at Sussex Downs College, but don't know which one to choose, you can ask for a guidance session. Our friendly staff will listen to you, and help you to work out the best course for you.

You will then need to fill out an Application Form and Academic Reference Form and return it to the college of your choice. You can apply for courses at Sussex Downs Lewes College, Sussex Downs Vocational College or Sussex Downs Park College.

Entry REQUIREMENTS for 16+ courses

GCSE Grade Profile Programme
In exceptional circumstances students who have achieved at least 6 A* with the remainder mainly A grades at GCSE in at least five different subjects including English and Math 5 AS levels or a BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma with an additional qualification
At least 6 A* - C in at least five different subjects including English and Maths, or BTEC Diploma with Distinction plus two GCSEs including English or Maths 4 AS levels or a BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma or Advanced Diploma
5 GCSEs grade A* – C in three different subjects including English or Maths, or BTEC L2 Diploma + 2 GCSEs at C+ including English or Maths,  or a BTEC Extended Certificate with Merit with 3 GCSEs at C+ including English or Maths, or a BTEC L2 Diploma with Merit including English or Maths. 3 AS levels or BTEC Extended Diploma or Advanced Diploma and English and Maths as required.A BTEC L2 Diploma with Merit allows progression to courses in similar subject areas only
4 GCSEs grade A*-C in three different subjects, including English or Maths, or BTEC L2 Diploma with English or Maths, or a BTEC Extended Certificate with English or Maths 2 AS levels plus two Level 2 single qualifications or BTEC Level 3 Diploma plus one level 2 single qualification
4 Grade Ds… or L1 Introductory Diploma or L1 Introductory Certificate and 2 Ds at GCSE Level 2 programme to include English and Maths as required or a Level 2 vocational programme plus one Level 2  single qualification
Mostly E – Gs Foundation Learning – Level 1
No formal qualifications Foundation Learning – Entry courses

Applying for Access to Higher Education (University)

We recommend you come along to one of our Information Sessionswhich are held throughout the year. Then our free Pre-Access course in June will help you to decide whether our Access course is the best route for you into Higher Education. As soon as you have been offered a place on the Access course you will need to enrol. Contact us for details on our information sessions


Applying for Higher Education and University Level courses

Student Services can help with advice on applying for Higher Education courses. Application for University courses must be made through UCAS.

Applying for Employer Training

We offer a comprehensive choice of training programmes, delivered by qualified trainers who are selected for their specialist knowledge and industry experience. Some of the training is available on an open basis, such as our scheduled courses, but training can also be tailored to suit the specific needs of your organisation, and delivered at a time and place to suit you and your employees.

You can book one of our scheduled courses by completing the Booking Form and returning it to Employer Training by post, fax or email.
