The students attended an information session delivered by Susan Stocks, from St. Wilfred's Hospice

Students on the Level 3 Diploma in Complementary Therapies programme and Level 3 Diploma in Hairdressing at Sussex Downs College, Eastbourne went along to St Wilfred’s Hospice.

The students attended an information session delivered by Susan Stocks, the Learning and Development Manager and the Complementary Therapy Team. The students gained a valuable insight into the local provision for palliative care, in addition to work-related knowledge, skills and understanding. The students were made to feel very welcome by the hospice staff.

These Sussex Downs students are providing a range of services monthly to the St Wilfred’s Hospice Day Therapy patients as part of their community and cultural awareness programme.

The patients are benefitting from their regular treatments by the students which they really enjoy. This is having a positive effect on their well-being. The students gain valuable experience about people’s physical needs whilst considering their emotional, spiritual and social needs too.

The hospice and college are keen to further develop their links and are excited about the prospects of being neighbours once the new St Wilfred’s building is completed.

West End Star reunited with her former college

Lucy Ashenden Westend Star Back At Lewes College

Sussex Downs College dance department welcomed back a former student, Lucy Ashenden to the Lewes campus this week. Lucy who attended the college in 2003 has recently been on stage in the West End with the smash musical Chicago.

Lucy was able to share her experience with current students by leading a couple of dance workshops.

Lucy said: “I am thrilled to be back here in Lewes, this is where it all began for me. In those days I travelled to the college from the Hastings area, having been a Claverham Community College pupil. This was the only place to come if you were serious about dance and performing arts. I am pleased to be able to help the next generation of stars.”

Following her time at Sussex Downs Lucy trained at the London Studio Centre, (graduating in 2008), where she was awarded the girls' prize for Musical Theatre. Her credits whilst training include: Dominique Du Monaco in Lucky Stiff and Mrs Marshal in Playhouse Creatures.

Lucy was able to share her experience with current students by leading a couple of dance workshops.

Lucy's made her professional debut in the touring production of Singin' in the Rain and in 2010 she joined the cast of Chicago in the West End.
