Jemma SmithStudent Profile

Name: Jemma Smith
Age: 23
Studying: FDA Music Production and BA Music Production

" I chose to study at Sussex Downs College because it was a natural progression from the course I was studying at Brighton University.

I would say the course has a great balance between practical units and written work. There are lots of opportunities to work in the studios, and it’s really good that we have both digital and analogue desks. It is really useful that the studios stay open in the evenings, so that I can mix late into the night. The course is very geared to helping musicians, engineers and producers work in the music industry. We study a business plans unit which really helped me.

I now run a successful promotions company and am involved in quite a lot of the shows in the local area, and also teach music performance and business on the First Diploma course at Sussex Downs. I am now looking at managing some professional acts or running a local venue, and am getting some summer experience working with an artist booking agency.

I want to carry on studying and get my Certificate of Education and become a secondary school teacher. "
