Music Production and Creative Recording Foundation degree

This creative course offers everything the modern music producer needs. Based at Sussex Downs College, a nationally recognised Apple Authorised Training Centre for Education, Music Production provides access to cutting edge music technology for your sound engineering, programming and audio-visual production work.

Areas of study

The programme can loosely be divided into four areas: music production, recording and technology; song writing/composition; performance; and how the music industry works. Within this framework you will create professional recordings using industry standard equipment, produce audio-visual work for multi-media environments (film/tv, games, web), learn how to compose/write strong original material, experiment running your own record label, develop your performance skills and put on a live event, understand the music industry and how to survive within it, and produce your own tracks with support of industry professionals.

From the beginning of the course you work on professional equipment on various production projects. You will, amongst other skills, gain technical and creative experience in multi-track recording and mastering, and sequencing and programming (including Apple certified training).

Course structure

The course is of a practical nature and consists of studio workshops, lectures and tutorials. It is delivered by experienced lecturers and industry professionals who are dedicated to enhancing your skills, developing your creative potential and advising you about the music industry.

Students have access to eight multi-track recording studios and 13 recording workstations with industry standard hardware and software and a performance studio. Recording technicians can be booked on a one-to-one basis to provide maximum support.
